Sunday Skills Sessions FAQS

How is lacrosse played?  Lacrosse is a fast-moving field sport played with two teams. Players use sticks with webbed baskets to carry or pass the ball down the field to shoot into the opposing team's net. Rules vary greatly between men’s and women’s lacrosse. Check out some college or Professional Lacrosse League (PLL) games on YouTube to see how its played.

Can I watch?  Yes, Parents are welcome to watch.   We know many of our little laxers need extra help with gear (especially during water breaks!) and encouragement so if your player is in the K-2 range, we ask that you have a designated adult present.

Will there be Fall Goalie Training?   We will have goalie training on some days.

Where does the registration money go?

The fall clinic fee pays for expenses for the Maplewood Lacrosse Club and contributes to the Columbia HS Lacrosse Team who helps run it.   MLC and CHS coaches are volunteering their time.  Expenses may include: field rental (yes, the club has to pay for every field we use), balls, creases, nets, goalie gear, safety equipment, admin fees for Team Snap etc.   Our district's athletic program is has a very limited budget and our schools don't provide teams with all the equipment they need.  This fundraiser clinic helps MLC and contributes to the CHS lacrosse team as well.

What is Team Snap?  Team Snap is a very popular sports platform that helps teams share schedules and rosters, allows coaches to post updates, and team members/parents to message each other.   You have to accept your coaches invitation to join the team on Team Snap (it's free),  in order to see the schedule.

Who is Maplewood Boys Lacrosse for?  We welcome South Orange and Maplewood K-8 resident athletes and soon to be athletes who want to learn a challenging new sport and enjoy active, exciting, fast-paced games.  Unlike many rec sports where our kids are on different teams each year, Maplewood Lacrosse teams play with roughly the same groups (plus newcomers of course) year after year.  They get to grow together as a team and form strong bonds throughout the years.  Many players begin their lacrosse journey with our K-2 clinics and others join later.  We welcome new players at any age, including 8th Graders!
